Under Painting

Painting begins with a monotone,
burnt sienna layer to establish the
ground of the piece.

The entire surface is "toned" with a
glaze of oil paint, then removed by
rag in a dark to light process to
establish the form.

In fact, no brushes are used
throughout the painting process.
